Small Axe Farm

Small Axe Farm is a diversified vegetable farm in Barnet, VT specializing in greens through their CSA and wholesale accounts. On December 6, 2018 they suffered a devastating fire in which they lost a close friend and former crew member who was visiting. The fire destroyed their micro-greens propagating building and an in-progress wash-pack station. It also damaged their new greenhouse. They lost a large quantity of equipment and supplies in the fire, including but not limited to their photovoltaic array powering the whole farm, hand tools, packaging equipment, crop inventory, power equipment, and a variety of building materials which were ready for construction.

An Emergency Loan from the VFF helped them to cover the shortfall between their insurance coverage and the cost to rebuild (they were underinsured as they were still under construction when the fire happened). Their community has stepped up to help rebuild, with a variety of volunteers helping with construction, plus many generous donations via a GoFundMe campaign.
