Burlington Farmers Market
The Burlington Farmers Market Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(5) nonprofit founded to promote local agriculture in Vermont. Founded in 1980 as a summer market in Burlington's City Hall Park and later expanded winter market in Memorial Auditorium (now UVM Davis Center) in 2008, their mission is to provide a direct marketing outlet for Vermont farmers, food producers, and craft artisans. The BFM serves as an incubator for small businesses in our community.
In 2019, with construction scheduled to begin in the Market’s long-time home at City Hall Park, they were forced to move 90+ vendors to a new, temporary location on Pine Street. This transition and the eventual transition back to the downtown area, came with significant costs, including marketing, amenities, and market infrastructure. A $30,000 Business Builder Loan from the VFF helped the market to weather this dramatic transition and continue its work supporting and growing the business of local farmers. By planning for the future, the Burlington Farmers Market will be able to make improvements to ensure its continued longevity as an organization, positively impacting the many food producers that participate in the market and consumers in the local community.
